The mission of the Technology SIG is to facilitate knowledge sharing and leverage the technology expertise from within the class, the wider University and the greater Cambridge technology community to help each member achieve their technology-related objectives. Whether people are simply interested in learning a little more about hot topics in technology, or are targeting a future in a technology industry, the Technology SIG aims to help make it happen.
Activities to be performed this year include:
- Knowledge sharing sessions among the members of the SIG. Members research areas that are of interest to them, including key companies, industry trends and hot topics, and present on these to the other SIG members. In some cases external speakers will be leveraged on these topics. Areas of interest already highlighted in the group include: mobile payment, FinTech, social media, hardware, telecommunications, product design, free and open source software and technology consulting.
- Build ties with the local technology business community and University groups, such as the CU Technology and Enterprise Club, Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, CU Computing and Technology Society, the CU Cryptographic Currency Society/Oxbridge Blocktech Network and the CU Nanotechnology Society.
- Co-ordinate with other SIGs whenever there is overlap in an area of interest, such as with the Entrepreneurship SIG on technology start-ups, or the Energy SIG in relation to CleanTech.
- Facilitating Global Consulting Projects, optimising the connections class members already have in the technology space and providing a venue to discuss potential projects or companies.
